Our Approach

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive and neurological disabilities.

Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We review our website as we add new features and content, and we work to fix issues as we find them.

What We Do

• Use clear page structure with headings, so content can be navigated with screen readers.
• Provide text descriptions for meaningful images and labels for icons and buttons.
• Design pages that work on phones, tablets and desktops, and that can be zoomed without losing content.
• Keep the website usable with a keyboard, without requiring a mouse.
• Use readable text sizes and colour combinations with sufficient contrast.
• Label form fields clearly and explain errors in plain language, including on our story submission forms.

Using Your Device's Accessibility Features

Most browsers and devices include tools that can make our website easier to use for you:

• Zoom in or out with Ctrl and + or − (Cmd on Mac), or by pinching on a phone.
• Increase the default text size in your browser or device settings.
• Use your device's built-in screen reader, such as VoiceOver (Apple), TalkBack (Android) or Narrator (Windows).
• Turn on high-contrast or dark mode in your operating system.

Known Limitations

Despite our efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible. In particular:

• Some digital magazine editions are presented as page images and may not be fully readable by screen readers.
• Older articles, images and contributor-supplied materials may lack detailed text descriptions.
• Podcasts and videos hosted on third-party platforms may not always include captions or transcripts.

Third-Party Content

Some features rely on third-party services, such as the Razorpay payment checkout and externally hosted podcasts and videos. We cannot fully control the accessibility of these services, but we choose providers that work to support accessibility and we will help you complete any task you have difficulty with.
